Covenant House, a non profit organization, opened in 1997 to provide youth on the street with short term transitional housing.   Starting with 12 beds they have continually expanded and now have 54 beds.  They provide shelter, meals and counseling to homeless teens.   Counseling can cover such issues as sexual, physical and mental abuse, addictions, pastoral care (spiritual, often described as "intentional friendship") and mental health.   Most youth are in need of many of these areas of counseling as the majority have experienced some type of abuse in their short lives.   Covenant House also provides a Drop In Center to help even more youth with hot meals, showers and access to needed clothing.
